After many hours of hard work The Mornington Men’s shed is able to take the restored Morris Minor out for a spin and it’s looking good!!
On Tuesday the 24th September we had the Big Day Out….a yearly event uniting the Men’s Sheds of Australia. Our area gathering was hosted by the Safety Beach/Dromana shed.
For the uninitiated, it’s like one of those “rave” parties, but with drugs of the prescriptive type.
A feature of the day was a performance by the Australian Welsh Men’s Choir…who sang a number of man-related tunes, finishing with “Nothing like a dame from the movie South Pacific. Great exhibits, highly informative and most entertaining.
|VOLUNTEERS experienced in repairing household goods are opening up a repair cafe in Mornington.
Members of the Peninsula branch of Solve Disability Solutions and the Mornington Men’s Shed will hold their first “repair day’” on Sunday.
A similar volunteer repair workshop is already up and running at Rye Community Centre, following on from the first Repair Cafe which opened in Holland in 2009.
The list of items to be fixed ranges from small furniture pieces to bikes, toys, crockery and computers.
“Anything that is broken is welcome but, at this stage, for safety reasons, we can’t touch mains electrical components and wiring,” “fixer” Bill Hallett said.
“By repairing goods, we want to help reduce the mountains of waste going into landfill.
“Unfortunately, many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired and our repair café wants to change all that.”
Members of the group will also serve tea and coffee.
These Repair Cafe experts will be available to help fix broken household goods free of charge, although donations will be accepted.
The fixers will encourage the owners of the broken items to be involved in the repairing.
The fixers will also be supplying their own tools.
The Repair Café is open 2-5pm, Sunday 18 November, at the Men’s Shed in Wilsons Road, Mornington. Details: 0409 197 307.
Check out the Mornington and Rye Facebook pages for up-to-date information and next open days for each cafe.
